All everyone's been talking about is the Virginia Tech shooting. I can't take another idiot reporter screwing up all of the terminology and basically filling in whatever sounds scariest when they don't have a clue. Anti-gun people are trying to use this as a case for more gun bans and restrictions. Gun nuts everywhere are using this as a case for fewer restrictions. I really don't understand how people can honestly believe that more laws are going to stop this sort of thing. If a person doesn't care about laws against murder, what makes them think they will care about any gun laws. This guy obviously wasn't supposed to be carrying a gun on campus but did. Who's to say whether this particular incident would have been stopped if students were given the option to carry on campus, but at least there would have been a better chance. When I was at Tulane we weren't allowed to have guns on campus and we were in a city that was always topping the charts for murder and violent crime. Walking across a dark campus to get back to your dorm certainly never felt safe for me. None of my classmates seemed warped enough to pull a stunt like that, but I was in engineering and didn't know I should have been watching what those crazy English majors were up to. I think one of my favorite new reports was this one ABC's Brian Ross reported:
"[Cho Seung-hui] bought his first gun, a 9 mm handgun, on March 13 and his second weapon, a 22 mm handgun, within the last week, law enforcement officials tell ABCNEWS.com."
Yep, he was using a 22 mm handgun. I would like to get my hands on one of those. I only thought a .50 was sexy. Most of my friends list have already said everything I would have to add to this, so I won't ramble on forever. It was a sad event, and it's even worse that people are trying to use it to place more restrictions on gun ownership. Oleg's been putting together several posters about the Virginia Tech shooting. One of features pictures of me... http://olegvolk.livejournal.com/230439.htmlTags: guns, news, oleg, pictures
